New Laws about sale of consumer goods
On 1 January 2002, the Certain Aspects of the Sale of Consumer Goods and Associated Guarantees Directive 1999/44/EC came into effect, harmonising the minimum levels of the consumers rights of redress for defective goods. However, only Austria, Germany, Finland and Denmark were likely to have implemented the Directive into their national legislation by this deadline. The UK, which already has extensive consumer protection laws, expects its own implementation around Summer/Autumn 2002. For more information please contact Niall/Elaine.
