Manchester City Football Club formed in 1880, but the club only became known as Manchester City FC in 1894. The club has only played at their home ground, the City of Manchester Stadium since 2003. Before this, their home games were played at Maine Road (since 1923). Man City FC is otherwise known as 'City', The Citizens', 'The Blues' or the 'Sky Blues' and their current manager is Roberto Mancini, who was appointed in December 2009.
Manchester City FC won the Premier League in 2011/12, plus they won the old first division on two separate occasions. They have also finished in second place, as runners up, three times. Manchester City's most successful period was in the 1960s.
Based in Manchester, this club's most obvious arch rival is Manchester United FC and when these two teams play against each other the fixture is known as the Manchester Derby. After the club was purchased by a company called Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, they became one of the richest professional football clubs in the world almost overnight.
Other Manchester City honours include the FA Cup, Football League Cup, the FA Community Shield and the UEFA Cup Winners Cup. Their home colours are white shorts and a light blue shirt. The kit manufacturer is Umbro and the main club sponsor is Etihad Airways.
