Stoke City Football Club formed in 1863 and they are recognised as the oldest club in the Premier League, but also as the second oldest professional football club in world. Their home ground, Britannia Stadium, is based in Stoke-on-Trent and the club is otherwise known as 'The Hammers'. Their current manager is Tony Pulis, who was appointed back in June 2006.
The club won promotion to the Premier League in 2008 after finishing as runner's up in the football League Championship (2007/08). The club has also won the League Cup and as recently as 2010/11, they were FA Cup runners up.
Located in Staffordshire, Stoke FC's main local rivals are Port Vale. This fixture hasn't been played for just over a decade now, but when the two teams meet, the game is often referred to as the Potteries Derby. There is also rivalry between other clubs such as Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves FC) and West Bromwich Albion (West Brom).
Stoke FC's record transfer happened as recently as August 2011, when they purchased striker Peter Crouch from Tottenham Hotspur for £10 million. The club's home colours include white shorts with a striped red and white shirt. The kit is manufactured by adidas and the main club sponsor is bet365.
